When I pray this morning, I realized that the work of the Word and the Spirit should be burning (intensely) in the believer’s life. There is a spirit of prayer that blazes, always covered by the work of the Word and the spirit every day. It is not normal for the believer’s life to keep on declining or become lukewarm. We have to realize that the work of the worldly spirits always tries to set everything for us to DECLINE and become more PASSIVE.

Like a glass of hot water placed on a table in a matter of minutes, it will turn cold. Like the flame of a bonfire, it would eventually out of fire, so is the picture of life in this world: always makes what’s “hot” to become “cold”, and what’s “burning” becomes “extinguished”.

On the other hand, anxiety, wealth and pleasure of this life would make people to become more passive. A person who is worried, too afraid to make any decision, he is always afraid to start a change. A person who is rich could get trapped to solve everything with money, to take shortcut without going through the process. A person who pursues the comfort and pleasure of life tend to stay in the comfort zone. These three mentalities make people experience passivity: always have a natural desire for breakthrough without paying the price. Desiring to experience the victory without sacrifice. Always want to be served rather than equipped. So that there is no healthy growth in Christ Jesus.

Luke 8:14 (NKJV) Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

How can we not decline and not be shackled with passivity?

1. Have an active spirit

Bulid the new habit in our life: learn to overcome every spiritual passivity. In daily life, learn to detect the laziness in our life, for example: you want to pray but feel you’re too lazy, you want to read Bible but you feel boring or just want to relax and do not want do anything. It is a signal that the spirit of laziness comes and tries to influence you.

Cast it out immediately by ACTIVELY ACT, fight, don’t stay quiet. By acting actively, we start to trample on our flesh, we start to offer our body as living sacrifice, because there is sacrifice.

Do not pray only in your heart but start to use your mouth to declare your prayer, at least say it until you hear it clearly. As well as in the Sunday Service do not be passive or stay silent when worshipping or hearing the Word. Start to use your mouth to say ‘Yes’, ‘Amen’ or raise your hands when worshipping.

I found that our body was designed by God to become move actively. A person who is paralyzed, his leg/hand would eventually shrink and become thinner/smaller because it never moves. We can learn from this, we should have an active spirit until it becomes a divine nature and we will see the laziness and passivity go out from our lives.

2. Keep guarding the flame of the spirit’s fire

The enemy of the movement is stagnancy (monument). Make sure that within us, we always build the habit of praying strongly in His presence until God touches us, or the fire of the spirit starts burning in our hearts.

The habits of the believers that often pray silently while folding their hands, he thought God would certainly be able to hear his prayer. Yes, that’s true, but the problem is, it is our ears that don’t hear what we say! In prayer, it is actually not God that we will change, but WE HAVE TO BE CHANGED after we pray!

Another habit that often happens: we pray that God hears what we say. But we should learn to HEAR WHAT HE SPEAKS.

Revelation 2:7 (NKJV) He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”

If we explore this word further: “Who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” This is written up to 7 times in the book of Revelation 2 and 3, it is means that we as a church should learn to harmonize the frequency to begin hearing what God tells us.

Begin to listen to ourselves in speaking while we pray. We can take the principle of the word that has been taught by the spiritual father and try to imagine it begins to happen within us. Make our frequency of thoughts in line to the principles of the word.

Pray in tongues and feel it whether it is building our spirit or not. If you still feel empty, change your spiritual tongues/ask for new words from the Holy Spirit. When we say and begin to feel the excitement in our hearts, that is a sign that there is the work of the word and the spirit.

Accept impressions or words of the Word that God gives, then speak in Indonesian, until awareness of God’s presence is built in our heart.

This blazing spirit fire must be kept. Thus, the lamp in us will continue to burn in our lives. (Prov. 20:27)

Proverbs 13:9 The light of the righteous rejoices, But the lamp of the wicked will be put out.
