This is the continuation of yesterday’s message…
3. Keep building the habit of lingering in God’s presence
After successfully lighting our lamp, we need to guard the fire and enlarge it to become more and more intense. Train ourselves; get used to stay for a long time in God’s presence.
I learned from the story of Abraham when the three men encountered him (God’s angels sent to destroy Sodom; Gen 18:1-8).
a. Although Abraham was 99 years old, he could RUN from the tent door of his camp to meet them, then he took a WORSHIPPING attitude (“bowed himself to earth”, v. 2).
b. Abraham tried to hold their advance and keep God’s presence to stay longer (v. 3-5).
c. Although advanced in age, Abraham had an enthusiastic spirit which inspires others around him (v. 6-7).
d. Abraham took the initiative to BRING THE OFFERING HIMSELF, and STOOD CLOSELY TO SERVE THEM while they ate (v. 8).
From this, we learn that fellowshipping with God is a PERSONAL routine that every believer must have. It couldn’t be represented by others and we couldn’t rely on anyone.
e. Abraham took the attitude of lingering in God’s presence. He kept building his fellowship with God, and pushed into His presence. As a result, THE WORD COMES into his life:
Gen 18:9-10 (NASB) Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “There, in the tent.” He said, “I will surely return to you at this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door, which was behind him.
f. When His word comes, whatever impossible becomes possible!
Gen 18:11 & 14 (NASB)
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; Sarah was past childbearing.
Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
g. Even after the men had finished eating, Abraham still walked with them to send them off (v. 16). Once again, Abraham’s action induced a response from God. “The Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?” (v. 17) Then, God started to reveal HIS PLANS to Abraham!
h. Observe Abraham’s attitude as a true worshipper to follow-up the series of events above:
Gen 18:22-23 (NASB) Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the Lord. Abraham came near and said, “Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?”
That’s the start of a sharp negotiation between Abraham and God to determine the fate of the righteous in Sodom (v.24-32).
4. Experience a healthy relationship with God in a spiritual house
A healthy personal relationship with God will blaze our spirit. However, only a corporate relationship with God together with our spiritual brothers and sisters in a spiritual house could produce a corporate anointing. It will guard and strengthen the fire in our spirit even more!
The same goes with prayer meetings. It serves like a ‘spiritual back up’ to guard and strengthen our fire midweek.
Those whose fire start to die out for some reason could be lit again by their brothers’ fire! In this way, we could progress corporately as a family in Christ. We could grow together and transmit our fire into a great torch of movement in our spiritual house! #iLoveGod
