When God brings us, His people, to enter a battlefield, there are two important aspects that we need to pay attention to:

1. We need to overcome all kind of fear or other negative emotions.

When the spirit of God came upon Gideon and God moved him to blow his trumpet to gather the Israelites and fight the Midianites, who had been pressing them, 32.000 people came. But there were 22.000 people who came with the spirit of fear (Judges 7:3).

In the laws of war that God has ordained, people whose lives are dominated by fear or negative emotions may not go forward to fight because the fear they bring will spread to other soldiers (Deuteronomy 20:1-4).

Like it or not, every believer must be trained to live in building their spirit men and make declarations of the word, so they will not live under the spirit of fear or other negative emotions! When we persevere in declaring the word and building our spirit men until our heart burn within us, breakthroughs and transformations in our lives will take place.

Every believer no longer lives like ordinary people of the world. Instead, they always experience the work of the word and the Spirit. They begin to live in the divinity and glory of God! The fire of the Holy Spirit and the power of the word reforms our response/reaction/emotion.

2. We must have ‘spiritual alertness’ by disciplining our minds and hearts to always focus only on the word.

When God selected the 10.000 soldiers that Gideon had, He ordered Gideon to bring them to drink from a river; those who drank the water by using their hands were separated from those who drank the water directly with their mouth (Judges 7:4-6).

Those who drank the water by using their hands, show ‘alertness’ in their lives, and God chose them to become Gideon’s soldiers.

Leaders must build the mentality of a soldier to their entire congregation; to always be ‘alert’ for all kinds of thoughts that come to their minds. In fact, Our mind is the battlefield that we must control and conquer, so we will always be inline with His word.

Philippians 4:8 (NLT) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. FIX YOUR THOUGHTS on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. THINK about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

It is in the area of the mind, Satan voices many intimidation ‘voices’ to suppress or intimidate God’s people (1 Peter 5:7-9), but in the same area of the mind, God’s people must win the spiritual battle (2 Corinthians 10:3-6).

Before we can conquer the enemy ‘out there’, we must first conquer the enemy ‘inside us’! When every believer is trained to conquer every thought under Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5-6), then even the weakest among believers can say: I am a strong soldier! (Joel 3:10)
