2 Corinthians 4:7-12 (TLB) But this PRECIOUS TREASURE—THIS LIGHT AND POWER THAT NOW SHINE WITHIN US—is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the GLORIOUS POWER WITHIN MUST BE FROM GOD and is not our own.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don’t know why things happen as they do, but we don’t give up and quit.
We are hunted down, but GOD NEVER ABANDONS US. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. These bodies of ours are constantly facing death just as Jesus did; so it is clear to all that IT IS ONLY THE LIVING CHRIST WITHIN WHO KEEPS US SAFE.
Yes, we live under constant danger to our lives because we serve the Lord, but this gives us constant opportunities to SHOW FORTH THE POWER OF JESUS CHRIST WITHIN OUR DYING BODIES. Because of our preaching we face death, but it has resulted in eternal life for you.
The verses above emphasize the two realities experienced by Paul and his ministry team. They keep manifesting and interacting with God’s divinity and sovereign power. At the same time, they also face many challenges and struggles which could make them weak.
It seems like a paradox. At one side, the light and power of the Lord works in the life of Paul and his team. However, all that light and power is ‘contained’ in this brittle, natural, and easily-exhausted vessel.
They experience many confusion and difficulties, although at the same time, they also experience God’s very tangible guidance; in the end, all the burdening experiences don’t cause any negative effect whatsoever to them!
They repeatedly face the danger of death, but at the same time, the life of Christ always guards and gives a way of escape from all sorts of peril. So, the Father allows all that to happen in Paul’s ministry so His power could manifest in the life of Paul and his team!
The purpose of God’s power and sovereignty manifesting in believers’ life is to distinguish and favor them from others. Indeed, the world lies in the power of the evil one (1 John 5:19). That’s why the Devil could do all it wants to create a system in this world; one that is aimed to put pressure and ‘decay’ in everyone – including believers – on earth. That’s why the evil days and difficult times still exist to degrade the life of mankind (Eph 5:15-19, 2 Tim 3:1-5). And that’s the reason why believers need the working power of God’s divinity and sovereignty – so they could subdue the wicked life system on this earth!
Holy Spirit gave me this explanation: we need the work of the divine life (zoe) in our everyday life. So, although we are still living in this world and interact with many people whose life is still inaccurate, we won’t be influenced by the worldly life! In turn, we could use our interactions to bring in transformation!
Observe the saltwater fishes living in the sea. Although seawater is salty, saltwater fishes don’t simply become salty! Because there is life within the fish which ‘prevents’ it from turning salty!
The same goes for our spiritual life! When we keep conditioning ourselves to constantly interact and connect with the divine life coming from His word and Spirit, automatically our life will never be influenced by this world! In turn, the divine life within us will automatically make us manifest God’s light! When our situation and surrounding is getting darker, the light of His divinity planted within our hearts will reveal His light and glory all the more!
In short, if God sets us to be a doctor, be a doctor who maximize his domain and profession to bring in health to as many people as possible.
If God sets us to be a lawyer, be an upholder of truth who hates bribes. Even more, we must become a ‘voice’ for those who’ve been ‘voiceless’ for so long due to wickedness.
Use your profession as your field of ministry! #iLoveGod
