When we consistently build our lives only by the Word of God, then our identity as the son of God will become more real, because we manifest the basis of beliefs, attitudes and lifestyles as the son of God in everyday life.
The awareness as the son of God, will not make us do ‘crazy’ things in life, because there is no ‘empty space’ in our hearts. We don’t have to seek for other life’s satisfaction, as we realized that we have the best identity as the son of God!
1. We won’t be tempted to pursue everyday life needs.
If the Father has prepared His Words for us everyday, then everything we need in life has been prepared (Ephesians 1:3). We don’t have to work so hard as if everything has not been prepared.
Matthew 4:3-4 (NET Bible)
The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.” But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’
The enemy will direct us not to focus on the Words that comes from the mouth of God (doing the Father’s will – John 4:34). So we will be preoccupied with pursuing our daily needs and the Father is no longer the center of our attention, but the ‘bread’. This is the worst degradation in life.
God wants us to have life as His sons, living only from His Word and doing His will. If the spiritual has been prepared (the Word) then the outward will follow. Our part is to focus on the Word and do His word!
Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
2. As sons of God, we won’t take ourselves into temptation, we will not ‘play’ with sin (Romans 6:11).
We become individuals who love God and never intend to manipulate the Father who full of love and forgiveness. Even though He can brings us up from where we fall, but it does not mean that we can deliberately drop ourselves down and live an unguarded life. No way! His mercy should make us love Him more with all our heart, soul and strength (to obey Him).
Matthew 4:5-7 (NLT)
Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”
3. We won’t even be tempted to pursue certain positions to gain respect or praise from humans.
We are not interested in pursuing all the success, luxury and pleasure of the world. We have a high sense of security. We won’t be disturbed by others having higher positions or living more successful life than us, as we know that we are the sons of God.
Matthew 4:8-10 (NLT)
Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”
We won’t be ‘bothered’ or feel envy when God promotes someone. On the other hand, we will totally support that person. Without position or promotion, we are still the sons of God (Philippians 2:1-11). Despite our position, we still have an impact as the sons of God, by having peace and joy in our daily lives (Matthew 5:9, Romans 14:17).
I have set my mind not to repeat the same mistakes Adam and Eve did in the past. They were deceived by the evil and lost their identity as the son of God. I want to be like Jesus who fully aware that He is the son of God, and continues to meditate on and speak the Word in all circumstances! That’s what made Jesus victorious and live in the favor of the Father!
