Unconsciously the inclination of our heart as believers is fixed only on God’s blessings or promises, not on the God Himself. So it’s like without ‘the blessings’ and God’s promises that be fulfilled in our lives, we do not represent our lives as believers! The opinion that is built in our mind makes us easily depressed on what people say, situation and condition. So like it or not we pursue the blessings and the fulfillment of His promises by our strength, then we reach it and immediately make a ‘claim’ that God has blessed and fulfilled His promises to us. All we do is for ‘getting recognition’ from other people. And without realizing it, our hearts stray away from the life that pleases God’s heart.

Yet it is very clear the word of God says: that the main is not the blessings or God’s promises, however the love for God (loving God with all our heart, soul and strength) – that is the foremost which is the inclination of heart that fixed only on the God Himself, others are just bonuses that follow (Deuteronomy 6).

And the thing that is also very important and foremost is ‘to listen to the voice of God’. That is the applicable form of the people who love God, listen to His Word (the things of the Spirit) and obey Him! The rest is only the bonus (Deuteronomy 28).

So actually the life of faith is not ‘complicated and complex’ nor devious! No! Because in principle only two things that God wants from our lives. When it comes to be ‘complex’, it only shows our devious heart; that fixed only on blessings and promises, not on the God Himself.

Then don’t we need the fulfillment of God’s promises? Or don’t we need the blessings of God? Absolutely we don’t! For what we need is only His presence. He is the foremost. When God becomes real in our lives and His reality fills our heart, then at that time we do not need anything else. For in the fullness of His reality, we are satisfied! This kind of heart condition will position us to become blessed people – already blessed – so we become a blessing and bring an impact for many people’s lives.

The question is, how about our outward needs? Like money, house, food etc. All are needed by the nations all around the world who work to fulfill their need! Don’t we need all of these?

Matthew 6: 32-33 (Indonesian Bible Nowadays) Those things are always pursued by people who don’t know God. Yet your Father in heaven knows that you need all of that. So, first you must make an effort so that God rules your life, and do His will. Then God will also give all the others to you.

If we as believers still keep struggling in the fulfillment of His promises and blessings, then actually God has not ruled, reigned and filled our hearts yet. We are deceived by this world to reach the things that are not the foremost. Because in principle, if we pursue God or focus on God and pursue His reality, then we have got everything.

What distinguishes us from others is not the blessings or the fulfillment of His promises, but the reality of God’s inclusion. Even those who are stiff-necked and stubborn could still enjoy the blessings, even receive promises. But they have lost the reality of God, it is what happened to Israel! In the wilderness they were preserved by God even though they rebelled for 40 years. How come we who want to focus on the God Himself will be left or not be cared by God? Impossible! He certainly takes care of our lives. Our part is only to love God with all our heart, soul and strength. And guard our heart so our focus is not dragged away from His reality. Learn like Moses!

Exodus 33:15-16 (NKJV) Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”

No matter how great God’s promises for us, and how big the blessings that God promises or gives, those should not make us have wrong focus. Our focus remains on God, the source of the promises and blessings. Our heart remains straight; believing that God is everything for us. So that we will not be willing to lose the awareness of God’s reality. Because it is His reality that is more valuable than anything else. God Himself is everything to us (loving God with all our heart, soul, and strength).

From this devotion the Holy Spirit encourages me to always build the awareness of the reality of God’s presence. At any time, we must not be separated from His presence! God must be everything in my life, not the others! #ILoveGod
