Deuteronomy 28: 1 (NLT) “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.
There are several important things we need to align in hearing God’s voice:
1. THE INTENTION OF OUR HEARTS
There are many people who set their hearts just to seek God’s blessing, not God Himself. So, they only want to hear the word of God that is related to His blessings. They do not want to listen to God when He corrects their inaccurate heart attitude, lifestyle, and basic belief. Usually this types of Christians will only ‘look for’ or invite speakers who pleases their ears.
As a result, their lives can never grow to be like Christ. Instead, they become more humane and live in the flesh. We have to set our hearts to always change and become more like Christ, so that the Holy Spirit can build us with His words. He will align our heart attitude, basic beliefs, and lifestyles according to the principles of truth.
2. PURPOSE IN LIFE
There are many people who have a purpose in life just for themselves. They only pursue their personal success and self-popularity. As a result, when the voice of God comes to their lives, they see and understand it for their own sake. Whereas, God wants us to leave our individual lives and become part of a local church that is built according to the pattern of heaven.
God’s purpose at the end of time is to raise up His church, as an institution consists of believers who inherit the same spirit, the same purpose, and the same agenda. So together, we can complete His will on this earth, and become His representative who carry the authority of the kingdom of Heaven (Revelation 12).
3. WE HAVE TO BE IN THE ‘RIGHT FREQUENCY’ IF WE WANT TO HEAR AND UNDERSTAND GOD’S VOICE ACCURATELY.
Here is the illustration: if we have a radio and want to hear certain news, suddenly a specific channel/ frequency/ the name of the radio station will pop up in our minds. Then we just need to press or turn a button to be on the channel we want.
It’s the same if we want to hear God’s voice accurately and clearly. We have to position or align our lives with the truth of the word. This is the ‘channel/ frequency’ or the verse of the word that we have to enter:
Romans 6:11 (NLT) So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
We have to die from the love of self, the love of money, and the love of the world. And rise up to finish the agenda of the Kingdom of Heaven. The old us, who live only to pursue personal success and popularity must die! The stronger the ‘smell’ of death from flesh in our lives, the more sensitive our spiritual senses, to see and to hear what God wants to say to us.
4. EVERY WORD THAT GOD DELIVERED TO US IS TO MAKE US BE MORE LIKE CHRIST.
All this time we identify God’s voice with a promise of blessing, a promise of success and a promise of salvation! Everything that is ‘profitable’ for ourselves. The illustration is like a child waiting for his father to come home; not because he misses his father, but he is waiting for the ‘gift’ that the father will bring for him.
We have to get rid of that attitude! Be a person who continues to grow and mature! Look at His word as His own person revealing Himself to us, with one purpose: so we can be more like Christ. That is the divine purpose that we must have in our heart.
We musty actively take His word, dig deeper knowledge of God, declare it, and take it as our true identity in Him. So we can grow and become more like Christ. No longer we who live, but Christ lives in us (become God’s representative on this earth)!
Galatians 2:20 (NLT) It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Those are the four alignment that we must pay attention to in hearing God’s voice. In principle: the voice of God that we hear, must make our lives more like Christ and manifest His divinity on this earth.
