Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NASB)

Though the fig tree should not blossom

And there be no fruit on the vines,

Though the yield of the olive should fail

And the fields produce no food,

Though the flock should be cut off from the fold

And there be no cattle in the stalls,

Yet I will exult in the Lord,

I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.

In our everyday life, we will always be faced with facts, data, and end-results. Oftentimes, we also have certain hope or expectation about something. If what we hoped for is fulfilled, we feel happy. But if our hopes are unmet, we tend to feel disappointed or angry.

This world is ‘guiding’ us to be RESULT-ORIENTED, and the world ‘trains’ to respond on things that are EXTERNAL IN NATURE. Without knowing, we are molded to PUT our joy and happiness on those external things.

Truly, when we believe in external things more than God’s word – making them our foundation of hope – we’ll no longer live based on our faith/belief. Because our eyes are no longer fixed on the true hope and faith.

Hebrews 11:(NASB) Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Romans 8:24 (NASB) For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?

Supposedly as believers, we see our FAITH/BELIEF as the FOUNDATION of all things we hope for. That’s why we are called BELIEVERS! As believers, we don’t believe after seeing facts and reality first. We believe and have faith first, although the condition and facts are not like what we hoped for.

What is the foundation for our hope? It’s the work of GOD’S WORD and SPIRIT. By receiving the word and the work of God’s Spirit, we no longer live upon facts but upon His word (Mat 4:4)! This is not as easy as saying it indeed, but each one of us needs to be trained to become a believer.

That’s why we pray and release our word declaration: to change facts according to God’s word. If we believe in facts more than God’s word, it will feel very difficult to pray, or even impossible. Because our eyes are still fixed on the facts, and our mouths are chained shut by them. Although we can speak, our mind and hearts are still bound by the facts. The Father knows about this; that’s why He sent His Holy Spirit to help us pray. Holy Spirit will help us to take away all the nails and chains of facts from our lives!

Observe verse 24 in Romans 8, which is the prologue of verse 26:

Romans 8:24-26 (NASB)

For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with PERSEVERANCE we WAIT EAGERLY for it.

In the same way the Spirit also HELPS our WEAKNESS; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words

The word “wait” in Romans 8:25 was taken from the Greek word “hupomone,” meaning steadfastness, constancy, endurance.” These are the characteristics of believers who hold fast to their purpose even in the midst of great trial and suffering.

I found that this is the mentality of true believers. They keep seeing the positive in the midst of pressure, and they keep hoping for the best regardless of all the unhoped facts and data put before their eyes.

True believers have their eyes FOCUSED on the PURPOSE, which is the revealed word and will of the Father. God’s desire is for His will to be done; to change things on earth like it is in heaven!

This is the mentality which will transform this world from darkness into light(Isaiah 60:1-2). That’s the reason why the creations are longing for the revealing of the sons of God (Rm 8:19). I believe that we are a truly different generation; one that is trained by the Holy Spirit to manifest His kingdom.

We must fix our faith until our focus is no longer on end-results or facts – both positive and negative! We must rely more on His word! And when we rely on His word, we are actually ENTRUSTING OURSELVES to HIM!

Habakkuk 2:3-4 (TLB)

But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!

“Note this: Wicked men trust themselves alone as these Chaldeans do, and fail; but the RIGHTEOUS MAN TRUSTS IN ME AND LIVES!” [“the RIGHTEOUS MAN LIVES BY FAITH – THEY LIVE because they ENTRUST THEMSELVES TO ME!”(Indonesian TLB)]
