There is a story about a judge of Israel that caught my attention. Preachers rarely mentioned his story and his name: Ehud (Judges 3:12-30)! He delivered Israel from Moab through a unique method. He pretended to offer a tribute and a secret message to the king of Moab. The king ‘took Ehud’s bait’ and died by the two-edged sword that Ehud hid on his body!

In short, under Ehud’s leadership, Israel worshipped the living God, resulting in 80 years of national safety. Surely, this is quite a long time of peace compared to the ones brought by other leaders and judges of Israel.

From Ehud’s story, I received several things:

1. Ehud is a person who prepared himself as best as he could for a special mission!

Judges 3:16 (NASB) Ehud made himself a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his cloak.

He made a two-edged sword, sharpened it, practiced using the sword, and wore it covertly on his body! Ehud prepared the sword specifically for Eglon’s death!

Surely, Ehud’s story is not to be adopted literally to plan a murder. But we could draw life values from the story.

Two-edged sword talks about the word of God (Hebrews 4:12). If we receive His word, then sharpen it (grinding the word on our spirit man), then declare it, the word will mold us to execute a Kingdom mission to the very best!

I was awakened to appreciate every word that comes into my life. The word should never be considered as a ‘passing wind’. We must observe the sequence of the word that comes everyday. Because they reveal our complete identity in Christ! They also form a map for our faith journey to reach a specific destination! By appreciating the proceeding word, we will play our part in the Body of Christ; to bring in the reality of the Kingdom over a nation!

2. Ehud successfully applied God’s laws over a nation for 80 years, resulting in Israel’s peace

This is an outstanding track record. Ehud successfully turned God’s laws into an intergenerational culture! We need leaders like Ehud.

I believe God is preparing believers to become like Ehud. He will prepare and position believers to enter every domain and govern there! People will witness the authority, power, and life model that has been built by the work of the word and Spirit. People will follow and apply the principles of the Kingdom in their daily life!

3. I believe God will carry out many ‘surprises’

He will give rise to unexpected people – those whom He has stored and trained for a special mission. By God’s power of grace, these people will do His commands to reveal the might and power of the Kingdom in every domain!

4. Our goal in life is not to seek fame, but to function for the Kingdom of Heaven!

Ehud is not famous, but he functioned optimally in his days. Not many people mention his name, but God records his life! He is not ‘as great’ as Moses, but he brought 80 years of peace over Israel!

So, stop looking for who is the greatest among us! Just play our part to bring in the reality of the Kingdom of Heaven! #iLoveGod
