The principle of determination, focus, and perseverance are often used by many people to reach success. Even people who ‘impacted civilization’ lived in those principles. They are focused and determined on ‘one thing’ they want to reach, and they do it passionately, persevering until they reach success. Finally, they become someone who impacts civilization during their time.
Determination, focus, and perseverance are principles which could deliver someone to success, even without God! Yes, many atheists practice those principles and they succeed!
I find that determination, focus and perseverance are actually divine principles that believers must use to pursue God and to know Him. We should use the principles to dig into the word of God until our identity in Him is revealed. Therefore, we could focus solely on doing His will according to the function He has prepared for us! That’s the life which pleases His heart!
Hebrews 11:6 (NASB) And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Now I understand that the work of God’s word and Spirit must make us increasingly effective and passionate in doing God’s will. No longer our will, but His will. No longer pursuing our success, but fulfilling His plan.
This is the phase of life that most believers ‘hesitate to go through’: to seek and know God’s plan and what is in His heart. Meanwhile, if we focus on them, slowly but surely, all other desires will be removed! Our lives will only be filled with God’s will and what’s in His heart.
For truly, there is no other ‘identity’ more appealing than the one God reveals. God will use us not only as a godly people who is influential, renown, and respected; we will experience the fullness of Christ! We will do much greater things than the ones Jesus has done (John 14:12).
That’s the moment when our light will shine so brightly (Is 60). People could no longer deny or even doubt our faith (1 John 5:4). Many people will confess that it is no longer us who lives, but Christ in us. They will ‘realize’ that God is the only one who is able to do all the great things that we do. And they’ll never be able to ‘imitate’ God’s work in us. Death is truly swallowed in victory by the power of our faith (Ex 7:10-12)!
This world could also ‘offer us an identity’ of someone influential, renown, and respected without following the ‘ways of God’. If we receive this world’s identity, our determination, focus, and perseverance will be perverted towards personal success. Meanwhile, we don’t need to pursue all that in the Lord. Because God will simply give us everything we need (position, connection, skill, etc) to make us influential, renown, and respected.
All we need is to seek His Kingdom with determination (Mat 6:33), persevere in studying His word (Luk 6:48, Acts 2:42), and stay focused in doing His will (John 14:31). That’s the way of the Lord!
Today, I draw my line even clearer from this world! I don’t want to be inspired by those who don’t walk in the ways of God. I must make sure that my mind is renewed, and I’ll reject every molding of this world by the portion of faith/ word that He has given! Because God’s word is my identity in Him! I want to live in my God-given identity without the slightest mixture/’marriage’ with the identity this world offers!
Once again, I offer my life to bring in the reality of Christ on the face of this earth! #ILoveGod
