John 15:4-7 (NASB) “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. ” I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. ” If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. ” If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Once again I feel that living as a believer is not difficult; it is very simple. We are the ones who often make it complicated because we don’t love God. I realize now that those who don’t love God will have many excuses to disobey Him – their life path is twisted, filled with anguish. They may be successful according to the world’s standard, but their success could never satisfy their heart. Instead, it will only drive them further from God’s ways.
Therefore, Jesus Himself explained the above verse. He illustrated very simply how we could live in God, grow, and bear fruit! It’s just like a branch that abides in its vine. We are the branches and God is the vine! Our part is only to ‘stick’/abide in Him!
John further clarified how we could stick/abide in Him :
1 John 2:24 (NASB) As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
It turns out to be very simple:
Live only from the word that proceeds out of God’s mouth; listen to His word, meditate His word, declare His word, and do His word (Deut 28:1, Mat 4:4, Jos 1:8, Ps 1, Jn 14:23).
If we do just that, we will automatically bear fruit. We don’t have to struggle to bear fruit 30-fold (willing to die, to believe God even when it doesn’t make sense, and willing to let go of everything for Him), 60-fold (impactful life), and 100-fold (becoming a national leader because of His sovereignty).
The question is, have we persevered in sticking/abiding in Him?
Luke 8:15 (NASB) “But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.”
Once again, the word above reveals the “root” of our problems, twisted paths and complicated life. It is the lack of perseverance to live solely from the word that proceeds out of God’s mouth: to listen to His word, meditate His word, declare His word, and do His word! If we persevere in this aspect, our life’s path will surely be straight, and we will bear lush fruits!
The choice is ours! Do we want to persevere? If we want to, and we fill our hearts with the determination to persevere, His Spirit will help us! He will pour out His grace for us to abide in Him and walk in all truth! #iLoveGod
