1 Timothy 4:8 (NASB) for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come
Oftentimes, church services become a mere religious routine for believers. They attend church services because it is a Christian’s ‘obligation’. As a result, they don’t receive the ‘impact’ of a service. Meanwhile, a true service always contains a very strong work of the Word and Spirit that molds and transforms the life of God’s people so they could walk accurately in His word. True church services condition God’s people to represent Christ in their everyday life, making them increasingly divine, godly, and resourceful for the Kingdom of Heaven.
God doesn’t want us to come into a service without being transformed. He wants us to experience the divine impact of a service, and this is how we should approach Him:
1. Come with a heart that is hungry and thirsty of His word
Just make sure that we want to encounter God through the worship and sermon. Because the inclination of our heart will determine what we’ll experience. I believe, if we are thirsty of His reality (Mat 5:6, Heb 11:6), His word/promise and the reality of His presence will touch and mold our lives according to His will (to become like our true identity in Christ).
2. Express ourselves and involve our emotions in the worship and sermon
For that’s the moment when our emotions are reshaped to become more and more divine. So in our everyday life, when we have to face various things, our emotions can always stay healthy, and we are able to respond accurately.
We also have to be active when God’s word is being delivered. Open our mouth and say “Amen” when listening to the sermon. Follow the divine dynamics, intonation, and intensity from preachers who bring the divine pattern. Because that is the ‘dynamic of the Holy Spirit that is working in a service’. The more we respond accurately (expressing appropriately following Holy Spirit’s dynamics), the greater the divine impact that will change our lives.
3. FOLLOW UP the divine surge, the word of God, and the Spirit dynamics that we have experienced in a service
Make sure that after going home from a Sunday service, we already have complete determination to make a follow-up. This will automatically make us experience a change in our lifestyle. Our mind will constantly imagine of what was happening in the service. We will also keep remembering the verses that is delivered. So, when the service is over, we won’t return to be ‘passive’, but we keep pursuing God actively because the Spirit dynamics keep burning within us!
But don’t stop there. Spend time to open your sermon notes, then re-read the verses with passionately and deeper curiosity. Follow Holy Spirit’s urge that is guiding us to dig the truth deeper. Then, declare the understanding that we receive until our spirit is burning fervently. Because that’s what will make us enter the same frequency of God’s voice.
In this manner, we will hear the same word that God has said to the servant of God who carries the divine pattern. This will make us doers of the word (our spirit is burning because we’ve received the word that proceeds from God’s mouth – we love God more and more). Now, Holy Spirit can freely guide us from one truth into another in our daily life. This is what makes our lives to be built on THE ROCK!
Luke 6:46-49 (NASB) “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”
I believe, the congregation of Breakthrough City Church (BCC) and Steven and Sons (SnS) Family will experience an increasingly great impact from services. I see that church meetings won’t start from their ‘lowest level’ anymore. Because every church member has experienced an increased level of intensity of God’s presence because they have ACCURATELY FOLLOWED UP THE PREVIOUS SERVICE. So in the subsequent meetings, Holy Spirit could demonstrate His POWER and LOVE more and more all-out.
We will see the great demonstration of God’s power flowing from church services into the everyday life of the congregation. God’s people will become increasingly STRONG AND TOUGH in showing their FAITH in day-to-day living! #ILoveGod
