Deuteronomy 17:19-20 (NLT) “He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the Lord his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees.

This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.”

By reading the word of God daily will give a remarkable impact in our lives:

1. To fear the Lord and to obey Him.

It is not easy to always have the fear of the Lord for a king (top leader). Because a king can do anything he wants and cover it up. He has the ‘power’ to get rid of other people he does not like and who disagree with him.

If he does not have God’s word in him, then anything can happen. David did it once. When he did not go to war and let himself relax in comfort, he forgot his lifestyle of meditating on the word, as a result he committed adultery with Bathsheba! The wife of the best person he had, Uriah! He also planned to kill and execute Uriah through the ‘enemies’ on the battlefield! It was very cruel! Yes, that is what David did! That is how far a king can do! No one is able to withstand the evil intentions of a king!

That is the ‘danger’ in a leadership position. Maybe we are not kings like David. We may be spiritual leaders, division coordinators, company leaders, or small group leaders. We may have the intention of manipulating people who are under us by using the ‘verses of the word’. We may ‘feel rivaled’ by our subordinates who have the potential to be better then us and we try to hinder and get rid of them! There are still many other evil intentions that can arise from the heart (Mark 7:20-23).

The lifestyle of reading, meditating, and declaring the word of God everyday is not only a lifestyle for a leader, but it should be a lifestyle for every believer (Psalm 1) This will build our awareness to the presence of God and also cleanse our life (John 15:3).

That is also what makes the love of God constantly burning in our lives. If we love God, then the love of self, the love of money, and the love of the world will not be in our lives. Thus it is impossible for us to love someone other than God (Matthew 4:1-11). Even if  “evil ideas” are thrown into our minds, we can immediately get rid of it because of our love to God (Psalm 119, John 14).

2. To make us not feel proud and more superior than others (arrogant).

I think this is a very important issue that we have to pay attention to. As a leader, it’s not easy to see himself as not superior to others. Therefore, as the righteous and believing person, who continues to be appointed by God, the word of God must always speak in us. That’s the only thing that can make us humble.

By reading His Word consistently, our lives continue to be reassured that only by His grace and His hand we will be lifted up, not because of our strength and ability. Only by His grace! So, we don’t need to feel more superior to others. Through our lives, God’s hands can touch those who fall, weak and helpless. So they can be strong and effective for the kingdom of heaven!

3. To prevent deviations from the laws of God even in small matters.

As leaders we often focus on big things and forget to pay attention to small things. We often think that people can understand the small mistakes we make because we are leaders. And no one dares to rebuke our mistakes, our bad behavior, or even when we hurt others.

Therefore, it is very important to listen to our hearts that continues to be purified by His word. So we have a gentle hearts and easy to be changed. We can ask for forgiveness without being corrected by anyone.

The word of God continues to form us to be effective people. We will only do useful and constructive things. We will leave ‘unimportant activities’, and begin to build a lifestyle that is align with His word and His reality, and other divine things.

I believe, when we consistently read the word of God, meditate on it and declare it every hour, we will always have a progressive life and we will rule this world with the power of His word. Through our lives what is impossible becomes possible, what does not exist becomes exist! We will manifest God’s divinity through our lives! #ILoveGod
