When Peter delivered the truth from the attic room in Jerusalem to three thousand people, something happened to them on that day.
Acts 2:41-42 (NKJV) Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
1. They received Peter’s words.
2. They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine.
3. They devoted their lives in corporate life.
4. They lived in the spirit of prayer.
Just by one explanation, they experienced drastic change and became according to the will of God, which is arise as the ministry of the body of Christ (inherit the same spirit, same purpose, same agenda just like what God gave to the apostles).
I noticed the material of the early church was very good and qualified. They were easy to believe and convinced. So the Spirit could bring them to shake the city by the power of the Kingdom!
When I compared the quality of the early church with the end-time church turned out to be very different. Man at this end of time is very difficult to be convinced by the truth. Especially if we talk about the ministry of the body of Christ and dedicate life to the will of God; it could need thousands of sessions to explain that truth but still they do not necessarily believe it.
That is the fact nowadays. The servants of God have tried many ways and revealed many revelations of truth to make the congregation believe, but still it is so hard to make them believe! The spiritual leaders have to think really hard and find a way to deliver the truth as attractive as possible, but the result is only few of them are willing to believe in God even when it does not make sense and willing to die for Him.
Frankly I am worried and ‘do not want to accept’ this condition. It seems unfair to see a spiritual leader who tries so hard to deliver the truth and explain it in such a way, but the congregation just stay back waiting for the word to come and take it as it is! It is totally different from the early church. The early church was active! They pursued the apostles for the understanding of the word!
Peter preached once, then the church continued steadfastly in his teaching. They asked, dug and meditated on the words until they became the doer of the word. They left their individual life and devoted themselves to corporate life!
They did not need many sessions, months or years of explanation. Just one day!
This morning I was ‘devastated’ looking at the comparison between the two facts. Indeed it is written in the bible that the quality of man in end-time is exactly the same as the time of Noah! They have a hard time to believe and also very individualistic! They always pursue personal success and blessing! (Luke 17:26-27; 2 Timothy 3:1-9)
No wonder it takes the explanation of the word in such a way for the renewal of mind that has been set by this world. The actual point of all the teachings of the word is to love God and to make us realize that the church of God will play an important role (Isaiah 2).
For the restitution of all things to happen, the church needs to have full awareness and the heart that loves God, so she can function and give her life for the agenda of the Kingdom of Heaven!
How can we have the same quality as the early church? Only God can change us! He raises His people and gives them an unyielding heart to equip them. He is also willing to sacrifice for the sake of His people.
How long will the spiritual leaders consistently deliver and explain the truth? Until the church is changed like the early church. How long will it take to change? It depends on us, His people! If we continue steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine, then it will happen quickly! The key to change is in our hands, as His people!
My prayers : Holy Spirit, please help us! We want to remove all the spirits of lazy Christian! Make us diligent and consistent in the apostle’s doctrine! It is enough for us to be Christians who are lazy to fellowship with God and to dig up the truth of the word! Give us the heart that loves God more than anything! So that all of our time can be used to fulfil Your plan and Your will! Let it be done in our lives, in the name of Jesus!
