Romans 12: 1-8 (NASB) “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”

That passage talks about BODY OF CHRIST’S MINISTRY (manifestation of the fullness of Christ through His church), where each member has their respective functions and duties. Nevertheless, there are still many ‘individual believers’ who do not want to offer themselves to be merged into ‘ONE BODY’.  They still want to walk according to their own will. Paul asserted that this was caused by WORLDLY PATTERN was still adhered to their lives.

What kind of worldly pattern that is still in their lives? They think more highly of themselves than they ought to think. What does it mean?  There are still dreams, and ambitions that are not according to God’s will in their lives.

For example: In one body there are many parts – nose, mouth, hands, feet, eyes, etc. There are many people who want to become parts of the Body that are considered ‘very important’. Some want to be hands and feet (assuming to be the driving force of movement) whereas God sets them to be (for example) ‘nasal hair’.

Some want to be a mouth (assuming to be a speaker or preacher), yet God has set them to be toenails. Some want to be eyes (assuming to be a visionary), but God sets them to be nose hair. As a result, they refused to do their function. They ‘consider themselves to become less respectable’ because ‘less visible’.

Paul emphasized, there are three ways need to be done to transform thinking concept:

It speaks of passionate love for God and the covenant relationship with God and the leader of the movement that God establishes. Without pure love and covenant, there will be no ‘body offerings’. Therefore it is very important to guard our hearts to love God continuously (refuse to love this world, self-love, and love of money) and to guard the holy covenant relationship. Without those, the molding steps by the work of the Spirit and the Word will be difficult to fulfill. Because he will not be willing to be corrected, molded, and taught.

The worldly pattern always makes people want personal success, being the greatest, the richest, and the ‘best’. As for God’s wants to make us servants and live in the death to the flesh, and death of personal ambition (Philippians 2). There is no other alternative if we really love God (want to please God) then we can easily ‘die’ for Him!

How important it is for us to empty ourselves when we push into His presence. Don’t bring in the ambitions, personal dreams, or identity we want. Allow God to reveal our functions and roles in the Body. If God reveals us as eyebrows that guard the eyes, accept and don’t want to be eyes. If as nasal hair, accept without a desire to be hair on the head. Because all parts of the body are actually doing their respective duties and roles in one spirit, one purpose, and one agenda !!

I am sure, if we think ‘as simple’ as written above, then our lives will not be ‘complicated and problematic’ (disrupting the order of the body of Christ), but easily synergize because we have an accurate understanding of the ministry of the body of Christ !!  #ILoveGod
