We often willing to fight for things that are outward even mortal. We work so hard and give extra time to fulfill those things. But God’s desire is for us to fight for divine things and willing to do anything to fulfill it. This is the most important things that God wants us to fight for, achieve and hold on in our daily lives: “A hungry and thirsty heart for God’s reality and His word”.

The Holy Spirit wants me to guard that heart with all of my strength and mind. It is worth fighting for because only with His reality we are able to do great things (the restoration of all things) and only by faith we can overcome the world.

To guard a hungry and thirsty heart for God’s reality and His word is not an easy thing to do. Not everyone wants to focus and persistently guarding it.  We are often distracted by external factors that provide ‘convenience and comfort’ choices in life rather than fighting to keep a thirsty and hungry heart. Like it or not, God has determined that for us. That is our good fight of faith everyday. So, let’s finish it well!

Paul gave us an example and showed us the results when he defended and fought for a hungry and thirsty heart for God. He became someone who represented Christ on earth, a man of God, who was recognized by the devil in the spirit realm and had a spiritual position that was ‘reckoned’ just like Christ.

Therefore, we need to adopt Paul’s mentality in guarding a hungry and thirsty heart for God through the verses below:

1. Train our bodies to be controlled by the Spirit.

Pray in tongue with strong intensity, declare His word, and worship Him until God touches our lives. That is our lifestyle everyday.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (TLB) In a race everyone runs, but only one person gets first prize. So run your race to win. To win the contest you must deny yourselves many things that would keep you from doing your best. An athlete goes to all this trouble just to win a blue ribbon or a silver cup, but we do it for a heavenly reward that never disappears. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win. I’m not just shadow-boxing or playing around. Like an athlete I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, not what it wants to. Otherwise I fear that after enlisting others for the race, I myself might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside.

2. Set one goal only, which is to become like Christ and experience the fulness of Christ!

That is our goal, not the others! The others must be considered worthless trash. The glory of that goal can’t be compared to anything in this world. So it is worth fighting for and achieving with all our heart, soul and strength.

Philippians 3:8-12 (TLB) Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else, counting it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with him, no longer counting on being saved by being good enough or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting Christ to save me; for God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith—counting on Christ alone. Now I have given up everything else—I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again, and to find out what it means to suffer and to die with him. So whatever it takes, I will be one who lives in the fresh newness of life of those who are alive from the dead. I don’t mean to say I am perfect. I haven’t learned all I should even yet, but I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ saved me for and wants me to be.

3. This morning I set my heart and mind to be a divine generation just like Paul!

To present the reality of Christ, we have to guard a hungry and thirsty heart for God, focus on the knowledge of God to be like Christ and experience the fulness of Christ. I want to do the best on my part. So when the Holy Spirit sees my heart, He will help me to fulfill the Father’s desire, which is for me to be like Him and experience the fulness of Christ on earth.

This is the only way we can overcome the world and present His kingdom on earth.
