Until today, many believers are still struggling to overcome the desire of the flesh that still burns within their life.
Romans 8:6 (ERV) If your thinking is controlled by your sinful SELF [“WILL” in Indonesian ERV], there is spiritual death. But if your thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace.
Supposedly, to subdue worldly desires, we could simply increase the will of the Spirit to manifest in our lives. The analogy is, we only need to bring in light to drive away darkness!
God showed me that the aspect of WILL is akin to a current that sweeps everything in it. So rather than fighting to defeat the ‘current of flesh desires’, it is easier from the start to ‘create’ our own ‘current of Spirit desires’!
Truly, the ‘tide of desire’ comes from the mind (Thought not brain). Therefore, configure our thoughts according to the word principles since the start. Automatically, we could minimize the chance of worldly spirits ‘hijacking’ our mind for the whole day. It will be difficult for the enemy to distract our mind or to stir the desires of the flesh.
When we keep thinking about the things of the Spirit and about His word, we will automatically live in the Spirit (Romans 8:5). The deeds of the flesh will no longer manifest in our lives (Galatians 5:19-21). In turn, the various deeds of the Spirit will start to manifest (Galatians 5:22-23).
1. Keep disciplining our mind to be fixed on His word until the word becomes a new nature in our life
Beware of this: even those who have experienced new birth could still live in flesh (Ephesians 4:17-19). Without actively crucifying the flesh, our old self could still manifest!
The simplest act of crucifying our flesh is by setting our mind on the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5). Even when we don’t seem to receive any material of the Spirit to meditate upon, we must make the decision to search for things of the Spirit! Activate our spirit man, pray in tongues! Realign our spirit with heaven’s frequency, so we could easily receive whatever heaven wants to release into our lives!
2. The difficulty in self-discipline could be easily overcome when we truly realize the need of self-discipline and grow the will to do so in our hearts!
Truly, the root problem of those who find self-discipline difficult is due to themselves who don’t want to change yet! They still enjoy the comfort zone that binds themselves!
However, realize that however comfortable the life we are enjoying, it only binds our mind. It hinders us from becoming a better person – from our new identity in God!
Bring out the will to change and to discipline ourselves until the nature of our mind transforms (Ephesians 4:23). Keep strengthening the will to change in our hearts, and our life will surely transform!
So it depends on us now. When do we want to change? If we decide to change now, we only need to keep strengthening the will to do so. Keep inspiring, motivating and speaking to ourselves. Imagine how our lives manifest the desires that come from His Spirit. Do it consistently.
Even though at times we still fail – carrying out the deeds of the flesh – never lose heart and never give up. Repent before God and once again do the right things we are supposed to do! His Spirit enables you! #iLoveGod
