Luke 10:38-42 (NKJV) Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

There are several spiritual lessons that I got from the chapter above:

1. The presence of God demands an accurate response.

That is to set the heart and mind to only focus on Him, not on the others. And our focus must be directed only on Him with all our heart, soul and strength.

2. Often we have already had many desires or plans that we want to do.

So when God comes, our desires is collided with His. Our frequency is different from His. As a result, we always intepret God’s presence by ‘doing something’. Even though He wants us to hear His word, then we do His direction.

3. Pressure, situation, other’s opinion, and condition will always make us to do something (to be busy) without clear direction from God.

We move because the world moves. We are tempted to do something because we see someone doing something. Mary determines to not be ‘distracted’ by Martha. She doesn’t ‘feel’ bothered with Marta’s gestures that wants to serve Jesus – Mary focuses on Him!

5. I truly learn from Mary, she is a person who focuses only on God’s reality and His word.

She has positioned herself to linger in His presence until she catches Father’s agenda: Jesus will die on the cross! It makes Mary move to do something for Jesus!

John 12:3 (NKJV) Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

Mark 14:3, 8-9 (NKJV) And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

5. Proofing that our lives are pleasing to God’s heart, should be spoken from God’s own mouth, not from ourselves or from other people.

This is a witness of the Spirit that we receive in our hearts (Hebrew 11:6). Mary got a testimony from Jesus Himself of what she did which was pleasing God’s heart!

Luke 10:42 (NKJV) But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Mark 14:6, 8-9 (NKJV) But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.  She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

6. Our lives will have an impact on eternity when we love His presence and live in it, hear His Words and do what He says.

7. I want to always purpose in my heart to live from His Word only, focus on hearing and doing it obediently.

This is my portion and focus that cannot be taken by the situation, condition or anyone. #ILoveGod
