It is very important these days to keep sharpening the spiritual acumen to hear God’s voice. Not only will we condition ourselves so we always enjoy the ‘best wine’ that the Father provides (John 2: 1-10) or experience the real promotion and defense of God / God with us (Deuteronomy 28: 1-14), including doing greater works for God (Matthew 14: 25-29, John 14:12). But certainly, obeying the direction or guidance of the Spirit will lead us to always walk in God’s ways (Genesis 18:19, Exodus 13: 21-22, Deuteronomy 5:33, Deuteronomy 8: 6, 2 Corinthians 2:14). Even believers in the early church, before they were all called Christians, they were called ‘followers of the way of the Lord’ (Acts 9: 1-2, 11:26, 18: 25,19: 9, 22: 4 -5).
Hebrews 11 gives us a list of people who obey the voice of God – kept walking on God’s ways even though it wasn’t the ‘normal life’ of their generation. But that’s what made them heroes of the faith!
~ Abel learned to offer sacrifices that pleased God because he followed his conscience.
~ Enoch kept establishing fellowship with God until finally he was elevated to heaven without physical death.
~ Noah obediently did God’s directives to build the ark because God said He would send rain and flood, something that had never happened in his day, could not be understood.
~ Abraham went out to answer the call of God without understanding what God meant. But his faith in God and His Word made him experience the molding process and life-changing that positioned him to be the father (forerunner) of those who experience justification for believing. His life experience that had no children until his old age, had become a spiritual training until finally, he conquered the impossibility that was making the promise of the Word into reality in the form of the birth of the promised child, Isaac. Because of his belief in God’s promise and faithfulness, he was even willing to offer Isaac as a burnt offering!
~ Not to mention, Gideon, Barak, Samson, David, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego.
Hebrews 11: 33-34 (NASB) “…who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.”
~ There are also believers who continue to hold their faith and followed the direction of God’s voice, experienced:
Hebrews 11: 35-38 (NKJV) “Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.”
They had become ‘Signs and Wonders’ for their generation because they listened and obeyed the voice of God that came in their lives. The list of the heroes of faith is still incomplete because my name and your name are not yet written there.
I am sure, God is continuing to call His chosen people to listen once again and obey every covenant or God’s directive. In each generation, God would raise up one man to rise in the Spirit and became ‘His witness’. But in this last generation, God is raising up a group of people who are united with Christ to rise in the power of His Spirit and become His witnesses! Just make sure you are part of the people He is raising up! #ILoveGod
