It is easier said than done to maintain and increase the level of dependence on God. It depends on our conditions and heart attitude towards God. In Deut. 17:14-20 we learned that God warned those who have received His promises or those who have received promotions, to guard their hearts (to always be connected to and dependent on God).
1. At every level of progress in our lives, we will always face the temptation to live apart from God.
The power of grace that works in our lives, will enhance our abilities/skills; and those skills / abilities are ‘raised from within us’. So it is easy for us to think that those abilities are indeed derived from ourselves and not a gift from God.
Even though we know that without God we cannot achieve what we have. But we are often deceived by the evil who planted the thought that all abilities/skills that make us received God’s promises, indeed come from ourselves.
It is easy for someone to lose their sense of dependence on God when they accepte the thought of evil saying that their abilities arise because of their efforts in training and disciplining themselves.
2. The more progress and breakthrough we achieved, the more we have to ‘soak’ our lives with His word!
I believe that the pattern and the way of life that the Father has prepared for us, as His children, is totally different from the pattern and the way of life of most people on this earth.
Ephesians 1:3 (NET) Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ.
As His child, we have our portion of blessings that the Father has provided; while most people throughout the world still have to struggle to pursue their daily needs.
Matthew 6:8 (NET) Do not be like them, for YOUR FATHER KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE YOU ASK HIM.
Matthew 6:30-33 (NET)
And if this is how God clothes the wild grass, which is here today and tomorrow is tossed into the fire to heat the oven, WON’T HE CLOTHE YOU EVEN MORE, YOU PEOPLE OF LITTLE FAITH?
So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’.
For the unconverted pursue these things, AND YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER KNOES THAT YOU NEED THEM.
BUT ABOVE ALL PURSUE His Kingdom and righteousness, AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU AS WELL.
So while everyone around the world is busy looking for their daily needs, the heavenly Father commands us, His children, to pursue accuracy in life, align with His word. He will provide all of our daily needs so that we are far from struggles in life!
However when we begin to enjoy promotions and all the conveniences God made for us, we must increasingly pursue His reality, the reality of the Spirit and the word wholeheartedly, otherwise we will be easily distracted.
God warned Israelites many times to keep their connection and dependence on Him so they could always have the fulfillment of His promises, but instead they forgot Him. Read: Deuteronomy 6:1-12, 8:1-20, 9:3-5, 11:8-28, 28:1-14
Deuteronomy 10:12-13 (NET) Now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you except to revere him, to obey all his commandments, to love him, to serve him with all your mind and being, and to keep the Lord’s commandments and statutes that I am giving you today for your own good?
We must guard our hearts so that the level of dependence on God will continue to be sustained and grow!
