To be faithful in the little things, there are several things we must address:
1. The underestimating heart attitude
I find that the root of this heart attitude is the chaos in organizing LIFE PRIORITIES. We often have clashes in determining our priorities. For example, do we fulfill the demands of our job, or attend church first? Because not doing my job means we could miss orders from the customers! In the end, we could decide not to come to church because there will be another service next week anyway. That’s an example of erroneous thinking logic.
Pharaoh (illustrating worldly spirits and the spirit of mammon) will keep holding the Israelites back from worshipping God. So, as God’s people, we must take a bold step! Re-set our mind and prioritize God as our number one! Because we have died to sin, and now we are alive to God!
When we successfully set this mind, I believe in His sovereignty, God will set everything in order according to our heart attitude.
2 Samuel 22:27 (NKJV) With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.
2. The familiar heart attitude towards the word and Spirit
Familiarity is a heart attitude which makes us feel familiar/used to the word and the work of His Spirit. We feel IMMUNE, unable to feel the sensation of God’s presence, while losing the PASSION to pursue God.
At the same time, familiarity will make us feel that we have KNOWN. We become disinterested to listen to the same sermon, or to pray and declare for the same word of God. Meanwhile, repetition is IMPORTANT in SHAPING us to BECOME like the word!
The root of all this is losing the first love and the spirit of thirst and hunger in our lives. Because someone who is filled with first love will do anything to fulfill the desire of their beloved. They will become all-out.
So, if you are suffering from familiarity, ask for the spirit of hunger and thirst of God to be poured out again in your life. You’ll experience how your perspective transforms, and your heart burns again in His love!
3. Spiritual passiveness and laziness
This is a form of the enemy’s work, aimed to hinder us from persevering. Because the enemy knows if we don’t persevere, we won’t become like the word.
Realize that if we still let passiveness, laziness, and procrastination to linger, we are giving room for the enemy to move in our lives.
Imagine if your house is being attacked by pests. Would you let them be? We will surely do everything we can to drive them away so we could live comfortably.
So, set in our mind: we have died to sin, but alive to God! We must drive away all works of the enemy from our lives. Have an alert spirit so we could overcome this aspect of passiveness and laziness.
4. Desires that are not dealt with
The root of desires is SELF or EGO. The “I” still wants to live in the comfort zone. And if we let self grows, the enemy will keep having access and foothold in our lives.
I find that it’s impossible for man to harbor no desires. However, don’t let those desires govern and drive our lives.
Learn to surrender your desires, one by one, into His hands. Remember that He is a good Father. In His wisdom and all-knowingness, He knows the BEST for His beloved children! When the time comes, He will surely grant us what we desire!
Philippians 4:6 (NASB) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving LET YOUR REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN TO GOD.
