Matthew 5:23-24 (NASB) Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there REMEMBER YOU’RE YOUR BROTHER HAS SOMETHING AGAINST YOU, leave your offering there before the altar and go; FIRST BE RECONCILED TO YOUR BROTHER, and then come and present your offering. Make friends quickly with your opponent at law while you are with him on the way, so that your opponent may not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
When I read the above verse, I felt Holy Spirit saying: Every problem that is yet to be completely settled will only condition your life to have an opening, which will surely be exploited by the enemy to accuse you before the Father, so it could have an opportunity to attack! All forms of inaccuracies in our past which haven’t been dealt with completely is akin to all kinds of garbage that we simply sweep under a carpet. One day, they still need to be uncovered and cleaned.
This is one of the reasons why God continuously demands us to do what’s right: so we could shut the various openings we have from our past. Because all those ‘inaccurate things’ are like garbage that we’ve swept under a carpet. Although our life looks clean on the surface, but actually, there are still many dirtiness, inaccuracies, and openings that the enemy could use one day to ‘take us down’.
Observe Job’s life. The Bible wrote that Job feared the Lord and he turned away from evil (Job 1:1). But in truth, Job ‘loved his children more than the truth’. He didn’t discipline his children to love the Lord like himself. Job only prayed and consecrated them before God every time they finished partying (Job 1:5). And that’s the opening used by the Devil to accuse and attack Job (Job 1:9-19).
God wants each one of us to proactively clear all the inaccurate things we’ve committed in the past!
· For example, we have lived inaccurately in our finances in the past. We have so much debt that our creditor has become ‘so bored’ in charging us (because we always evade and have excuses to delay our payment) to the point that they decide to forget all our debts. Don’t assume that it is a form of ‘God’s goodness’! Regardless of all, debt is debt; we need to pay them off! The right action to do in the present is to pay off all those debts!
· As another example, we’ve had a special relationship with someone in the past. And because we were drowning in ‘love’, we went ‘too deep’ and committed many stupid things. Then, due to some reasons, we break up with that person. If today we want to build another special relationship with somebody else, it’s best to meet our ex to clear up the past and settle the problems accurately. Without completely clearing up the problems, the special closeness we’ve had with our ex will always be an opening. One day, the enemy could use it to corrupt, and even destroy, the family that we’re building.
Truly, clearing up our inaccuracies – both past and present – is the right thing to do to guard our life journey in the future! #ILoveGod
