Personally, God keeps training my perspective in reading the Bible. He wants mine to change from an individual perspective to a corporate one. Because truly, many principles in the Bible are meant for corporate living. If we understand it only for our individual life, we have lost the true essence of the word itself!
For example, we often interpret Acts 1:8 for our personal life; “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
When Jesus said that, He was not talking to a person, but to a multitude of over 5000 people (1 Cor 15:6). The weight and meaning of the word becomes very different if we only see it from an individual frame!
1. Receiving power individually and corporately is very different in its weight and impact
Imagine a group of people who carry the same thing; might, strong spirit dynamics, spirit of breakthrough, spirit of hunger and thirst, spirit of willingness to sacrifice, spirit of joyful & voluntary obedience, spirit of faith demonstration, and the spirit of excellence. Wow, I’m very sure that the impact will influence cities after cities and nations after nations! Whatever we do together to fulfill God’s will & plan will surely prevail!
On the other hand, we could think that the power is merely for our personal interest. If that’s the case, it will be DIFFICULT for us to grasp what Jesus truly meant! Because it is impossible for us to govern over a city “alone”, moreover a nation!
If we keep maintaining such individualism, we will be frustrated. While we could achieve personal success, but we don’t have any real impact over cities or nations. We must remember that God is raising a corporate ministry called the body of Christ, and not a superstar or individualistic ministry!
2. Becoming a witness (individual) and witnesses (corporate) of God’s reality is very different in its weight and value
Let’s assume that we are members of a local church that has been built accurately, and we are doing God’s project corporately. During the start until the end, we will face challenges of varying levels. When we stay united in facing them, we could witness the intervention of God’s hand. What is impossible becomes possible, and things that didn’t exist came into existence. In short, God’s miraculous help makes the project successful!
That’s what I call as ‘becoming witnesses’; not individually, but corporately. As a result, all of us could testify that God is real and He is still working. Our testimony could not be denied by anyone, and it will bring a great impact. Because we are all witnesses of God’s mighty works! Testimony of more than 1 or 2 people is valid and undeniable!
3. God’s intervention which has led us to victory will become a testimony that will keep speaking into our everyday life, strengthening us
We won’t quickly become weak and hopeless. We know for sure that our spiritual brothers are there, praying for us. Holy Spirit’s work will become more and more real, leading us from victory to victory. And our victory will become and inspiration in the corporate life – it no longer becomes our personal victory, but a corporate victory.
We can strengthen our brothers through our testimony. All of us could keep walking in covenant and never surrender from God’s work! Everyone’s testimonies will become a greater propelling power to push each other! So, corporately, we could do much greater works to bring in the reality of the Kingdom over cities and nations!
4. We will receive greater understandings when we keep training ourselves to capture the written word from a corporate perspective
Every stronghold in our mind that keeps saying, “impossible” & “can’t do” will be brought down by the power of the Word.
God’s Kingdom ruling the earth won’t stay as a concept. Because by the HELP OF HIS SPIRIT, we will CORPORATELY realize His government!
