When we build the determination to continue pushing in His presence – ensuring God’s promises or statements of the Word that we receive from God become a reality in everyday life (become personal experiences), then that personal experiences become the ‘oil’ in our lives. Sustaining our spiritual life so that it continues to burn for the Lord (Matthew 25:4).
What we must be aware of is, we must ensure that the personal experiences we have are always in harmony with His words and His nature.
2 Timothy 2:16-18 (NET) But avoid profane chatter, because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, and their message will spread its infection like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are in this group. They HAVE STRAYED FROM THE TRUTH by saying that the resurrection has already occurred, and they are undermining some people’s faith.
There are believers or spiritual leaders who have unwittingly made their personal spiritual experience a standard or truth for others. Whereas what we experience is not necessarily a spiritual experience from God!
THE QUALITY OF OUR KNOWLEDGE OF GOD DETERMINES THE VARIOUS SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES THAT WILL HAPPEN IN OUR LIFE.
To have an accurate knowledge of God requires the work of the spirit of wisdom and revelation in our lives.
Ephesians 1:17 (NET) I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him,
Ephesians 1:16-17 (TLB) I have never stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you wisdom to see clearly and really understand WHO CHRIST IS and ALL THAT HE HAS DONE FOR YOU.
Look carefully at the TLB translation above. Our knowledge of God should be based on ‘who Christ is’, which refers to the existence of the Christ himself and what He has done for us who believe, as well as through His sacrifice on the cross and His existence after being glorified by Father! So that we deliberately ‘put boundaries’ in our pursuit to know Him personally. What’s the boundary? The Word that reveals He never changes!
For us to begin to know Jesus the Christ, it will help us if we notice some of the claims or confessions that come out of the mouth of Jesus. From which we will be able to recognize Him and build the basis of our belief and hope that something will happen to our lives regarding the claims He makes!
1. I will build my church and the gates of death will not overpower it (Matthew 16:18).
2. I am the bread of life (John 6:35, 48 and 51).
3. I am the light of the world (John 8:12).
4. I am the door (John 10:9).
5. I am the good shepherd (John 10:11).
6. I and the Father are one (John 10:30).
7. I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).
8. I am the teacher and the Lord (John 13:13).
9. I am the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6).
10. I am the true vine (John 15:1).
11. I have chosen and appointed you to go and bear fruits that remain (John 15:16).
12. I am the First, and the Last, and the Living One (Revelation 1:17-18).
Read the passages of various verses contain Jesus’ claims about Himself. As we do so, I pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to work to open our spiritual eyes, to reveal what Christ is for us and what is already in store for us in Him. So that with faith, we reach our portion. Amen!
