This daily devotion continues from the previous day’s message

2. God’s plan is to always be with His chosen people, positioning and promoting them within the system of Babylon!

If we observe the history of the kingdom of Judah, the kings who lived in idolatry outnumbered the kings who lived accurately and favorably before God’s heart. The Book of Daniel wrote that King Jehoiakim lived wickedly before the Lord, leading to the exile of the kingdom (and Daniel) to Babylon (Daniel 1:1, 2 Kings 3:36-37).

However, God is still with Daniel although he is a captive in Babylon! God even promoted Daniel as Babylon’s second-in-command after the king. And then, along the kings who ruled throughout Babylon and the Medo-Persian empire, God still promoted Daniel to be the second-in-command over the whole kingdom!

Right now, the world around us is still under the control of the Babylonian system. However, I believe that God still intends to position and promote His chosen people to be influential, renowned, and respected in the system of Babylon! Just make sure that we don’t get swayed and become ‘drunk’ by the various facilities we find when God places us within the system! God gave us a warning as His chosen people not to be bound by the Babylonian system.

Make sure that our heart stays clean although we interact, and even live under the shadows of the Babylonian system around our lives! Set our heart in such a way, so that even though we must have contact with the Babylonian system, we can keep ourselves clean! We can have contact without contamination!

The Babylonian system even tried to change Daniel’s identity by giving him a new name, “Belteshazzar” (Daniel 1:7). The system aims to ‘cut-off’ the noble lineage of Judah within Daniel. In the same way, the Babylonian system always tries to rob us of our true identity in Christ as God’s chosen people. And once we lose our identity, we will start to live our everyday life the way every captive in Babylon lives! However, I learned that throughout the Book of Daniel, the Bible kept writing Daniel’s original name, not the one Babylon gives! Even the king came to call Daniel with his own name; a form of acknowledgement towards Daniel’s divine identity as a noble of Judah; God’s chosen people (Daniel 5:13, 6:20)!

Now, this is the key so God could always be with us, and even position and promote us within the Babylonian system: we must have the determination in our heart to keep living in God’s ways.

Daniel 1:8 (NASB)  BUT DANIEL MADE UP HIS MIND THAT HE WOULD NOT DEFILE HIMSELF with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.

Daniel’s determination to not defile himself pulled down God’s favor. God moved the heart of Ashpenaz (the king’s chief official) to sympathize with Daniel.

God’s favor in our lives will be the determining factor to open various doors of opportunities. Through certain people He has prepared to help us climb the stairs of promotion, God will promote us within Babylon!

Out there, many people are struggling and trying through all means to have progress and promotion within the system of Babylon. But in God’s sovereignty, He will simply open for us various doors of opportunities and connections! As His chosen people, we will keep breaking through without being contaminated by the existing system!

Right now, God is looking for righteous men whom He could use as His witnesses in the Babylonian system. Let Him find it in us! #ILoveGod
