Colossians 3:1-4 (NASB) Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
The above passage truly taught me about inclination of heart. That’s the way we should fix our mind as a people who have died to sin and surrendered their life to Him. That’s the only way the Spirit of Christ could come within us, so we can reveal His glory on earth; by setting our mind on the things above!
So, what is meant by ‘the things above’? It is the reality of God’s presence and the word that proceeds from the mouth of God! The awareness of God’s reality is supposed to be our habitat, and His word is the only thing we hold onto in life. That’s the way the righteous lives. That’s the only way for our life to keep rising and never going down. We’ve been destined to rule and reign (to be the head, a standard, a divine pattern), not to be slaves of this world’s system (to be the tail/followers).
Proverbs 4:18 (NASB) But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
Deuteronomy 28:13-14 (NASB) The Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, which I charge you today, to observe them carefully, and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
For so long, we think that we can live victoriously and rule through humanistic ways. Meanwhile, it is written clearly in God’s word: live by His word alone (meditate and speak the word day and night), and do what He has set us to do. But to do ‘just that’, it’s already so difficult for us believers. The reason is, for so long, our mind/reasoning and heart inclination have been enticed by this world, so we keep thinking about the things of this world (life in the Babylonian system, glamor, and worldly success).
I came to realize more and more that living victoriously, ruling, and reigning is highly determined by our MIND. WHAT WE THINK ABOUT IS CRUCIAL.
Proverbs 4:23 (ERV) Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.
Whether our life goes up or down, it’s in the control of our mind. If we think of the things above, we’ll automatically rise up and rule over the earth. By God’s sovereignty, He will reveal us as overcomers of this world!
I want to set this determination in my heart: to fix my mind on the things above. Because that’s the divine lifestyle which connects me to God’s eternity. My life on earth could always connect accurately with the Kingdom of Heaven!
Proverbs 4:23 (NASB) Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.
John 7:38-39 (NASB) He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
John 4:14 (NASB) but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
I’ll make sure to be more all-out in my Bible reading. I will make a new ‘record’ in reading and declaring God’s word. I won’t just read the word once an hour, but multiple times an hour! I set my heart and determination to do it! #ILoveGod
