Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (NKJV)
“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’ “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
From the passage above, I receive several important principles:
1. To love God with all our heart, soul & strength (all-out) is God’s command & statute for His people.
All other commands (about living in holiness, throwing away sin, offerings, living accurately, living in the Spirit, etc) will be easy when we dedicate all our lives to love Him all-out (willing to die, to believe God even when it doesn’t make sense, and to let everything go for Him)!
2. Loving God must be made into a lifestyle or culture passed down to our children and grandchildren.
It’s not right if in a family, only the wife or the husband loves the Lord. It’s also not right if only the children or the parents that love the Lord. It’s a mistake if only some of our children love the Lord. All family members must be conditioned to love God in their lives all-out!
3. When we love God all-out, God will act in His sovereignty to establish our life & family in the land that God gives to us.
In His sovereignty, God carried Israel, previously slaves of Egypt, to inherit the Promised Land. And God’s command for them is one; love the Lord your God! I believe, the way God brings us to love Him all-out, He will also bring us to inherit the Promised Land!
4. Our heart which loves God all-out will pull down God’s blessing, so we can multiply, live a long life, and enjoy the abundance of our God-given land.
In short, I’ve found the essence of the ideal life sought after every man – whoever they are, and wherever they come from – it’s in the life of loving the Lord all-out!
And I pray, let every reader of this daily devotion experience the work of Holy Spirit. Let God restore your heart to be all-out for Him once again! For without us loving Him all-out, we’ll never experience the reality of His presence surrounding our lives. And without His reality in our lives, we are nobodies, and we can’t do anything. #ILoveGod
