Philippians 1:6 (ERV) I am sure that the good work God began in you will continue until he completes it on the day when Jesus Christ comes again.
From the verse, I received several understanding:
1. The verse above couldn’t be interpreted individually, but corporately.
Too many Christians are using the verse for their personal ambition; to carry out their heart desires and to achieve personal success. Meanwhile, the verse is clearly directed towards the congregational life of the Philippians. Paul didn’t direct the verse towards one specific person, but to the ‘congregation/people/spiritual family’ (corporate).
The verse doesn’t contain any ‘individual spirit’. So, we couldn’t claim the verse for our personal interest!
2. ‘The good work’ talks about the agenda of the Kingdom of Heaven within the locality of the Philippians.
It includes every project and strategies to realize the kingdom agenda!
3. God is faithful, and He has poured out His heart content to us
Because of it, He will always guide, lead, and direct us, giving us strength and the skills to finish every assignment and role we have in the grand, corporate agenda of the Kingdom. Whatever WE do will prosper!
4. I feel that the verse contains a very strong dimension of unity and harmony
Because it is impossible for a group of people to work corporately unless they are united and in harmony.
Psalms 133:1-3 (NASB) A Song of Ascents, of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is. For brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron’s beard, Coming down upon the edge of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon. Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forever.
Unity of heart happens when we inherit the same spirit dynamics, agenda, and purpose like what God has planted in our leader/spiritual father. When unity and harmony meet, we don’t need to struggle anymore – God will command everything that we need to finish every good work! Yes, God Himself will COMMAND all that WE need to come to us!
5. I believe God will keep continuing the movement with His mighty works 4. I feel that the verse contains a very strong dimension of unity and harmony
We could accomplish what people deem impossible because God is with us. The impossible will become possible, and what didn’t exist will come into existence! God’s name will be exalted to the ends of the earth because our lives have turned into a testimony! #iLoveGod
