Psalm 16:11 (NKJV) You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16:11 (ERV) You will teach me the right way to live. Just being with you will bring complete happiness. Being at your right side will make me happy forever.
Psalm 16:11 (TLB) You have let me experience the joys of life and the exquisite pleasures of your own eternal presence.
The several versions of the passage above gave me an understanding:
1. Holy Spirit will lead us to walk in God’s ways of life.
There, we will enjoy a life filled with peace and joy. Our part is to surrender our lives to be led and molded by the work of God’s Word and Spirit. Focus on it, and we will never be lost in the ‘darkness’ (the world of thorn and thistles; full of struggle and inner conflict).
Keep holding onto His word as our standard. Use His word as the material for our meditation and dialogue with the Lord. Therefore, our hearts will stay guarded and it will keep flowing life.
2. When we interact with the Lord, our lives should overflow with joy.
If what dominates our mind are negative facts, other people’s mistakes, and problems, of course our lives will be burdensome. It turns out, who we associate with is important. Because who we keep company will determine what we think. Many believers keep harboring bad habits and negative emotions (anger, irritation, disappointment) and this is caused by their association. Many believers keep associating with worldly spirits which drag their minds into problems, negative facts, and bad things in other people. Remember: bad company/ association corrupts good habits (1 Cor 15:33)!
As new creations, we are supposed to live in overflowing joy. And we can only do so by associating with the Lord. Chat with Him; use His word as the topic of conversation. Then, see how associating with the Lord removes bad habits from our lives.
Before having God as our company, we usually respond towards everything with negative emotions. But after associating with God, we become different. We respond with the joy that comes from the Lord. And that joy is abundant; it will never run out! From morning ‘til dawn, in all situations, we will be full of joy!
3. See joyful life as something mandatory, a standard, and the desire of God’s heart, and then take a step to live in it; then God will give that life to us!
Holy Spirit will help us to ‘fight against this world’s current of negative emotions’. Our part is to strengthen our will, determination, and perseverance. When we do so, Holy Spirit will multiply the work of His word in our lives. Our minds will be dominated by His word and voice. Therefore, we couldn’t hear the noise of this world (contamination) anymore. The current of negative emotions couldn’t sweep us. Our lives become solid, standing strong in divine joy!
4. The reality of God’s presence is the source of our joy. If God is real in our lives, our divine joy will overflow.
God desires the reality of His presence to be ETERNAL in our lives every day – no longer come-and-go. God doesn’t want us to sometimes feel that He is real, and sometimes not; sometimes we believe God, and sometimes not; that’s not what God wants. He wants us to experience His reality all the time until eternal life! Therefore, we could ENJOY LIFE WITH THE LORD! That’s the most beautiful and peaceful thing on earth, and such is the TRUE PLEASURE; to live in His reality until eternity!
I am determined to REJOICE ALWAYS in all situations! To respond towards everything in JOY! FOR THAT IS THE TRUE PLEASURE OF LIFE! I WANT TO ENJOY LIVING WITH THE LORD! #ILoveGod
